Purpose of this Privacy Notice
We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data collected when you enquire about or sign up for the online course How To Do Semiotics in Seven Weeks, when you register as a member of the Alumni community or when you otherwise contact us. We will always be transparent with you about how we are using your details. This Data Privacy Notice explains how we treat your personal data and your rights. Please read it carefully.
Our services are not intended for children, and we do not knowingly collect data relating to children.
What Data We Collect
We only collect the necessary minimum of your personal data we need to be able to communicate with you and provide our services to you – i. e. your name and email.
We also collect the information about your country of residence, to demonstrate how truly global our community is.
We will obtain your picture from public domain and use it on your Certificate when you graduate from the course. We will offer you the opportunity to provide us with any other picture of yours if you prefer to do so.
We will collect the information about your job role and company you worked for at the time when you signed up for the course, to demonstrate how universally applicable semiotics is and how many different professions can benefit from learning it.
How We Obtain Your Data
We only keep contacts of people for whom we believe the Course is a relevant and useful platform for learning semiotics.
For instance, you may have emailed us and enquired about the Course, or you are a member of the Semiotic Thinking Group on LinkedIn, our business contact, or a friend enthusiastic about semiotics and interested in what we do.
How We Store Your Information
We have implemented reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to secure your personal data from accidental loss and from unauthorised access, use, alteration, or disclosure.
Access to our computers is password protected and antivirus, VPN, Identity & Privacy Protection measures are in place.
We have also put in place procedures to deal with any suspected personal data breach and will notify you and any applicable regulator of a breach where we are legally required to do so.
We also keep a database on MailChimp. MailChimp is certified to the EU-US Privacy Shield Framework and the Swiss-US Privacy Shield Framework. If we ever need to create a backup of the database, it will be encrypted and stored on cloud servers hosted within the EU.
However, the Internet is an open system, and we cannot guarantee that unauthorised third parties will never be able to defeat those measures or use your personal data for improper purposes.
How We Use Your Personal Information
We only use your personal data when communication with you about the Course, follow-up learning and events, and Alumni community.
You can tell us at any time to stop sending you information and updates using the unsubscribe functionality at the bottom of our group emails or by emailing us directly.
Marketing Communications
We may from time to time contact you by email, or post about our products and services that may be of interest to you relevant to your profession and job role.
We may use the data of Course participants to demonstrate the learning value of the Course. This will never be done in a negative or derogatory way, but only in a celebratory capacity to appreciate your hard work throughout the course.
In addition, whilst we will not broadcast any of the Zoom recordings of the live seminars, we might take short extracts and photos just to show the course atmosphere.

We may also use aggregated data to demonstrate trends and statistics to promote the Course.
If you are not happy with that then we ask for you to request specifically to be made exempt from any public posting.
Sharing your personal data
We never use your data beyond the purpose of keeping you informed about the Course, build-on learning, and Alumni community, and beyond the marketing purposes outlined above.
Opting out
You have certain rights in relation to your personal data and the legislation tells us what we can, and cannot do, with your information.
